A bench designed for the historical fortification park in Trnava, inspired by the construction techniques used during the period of the city walls. The project merges contemporary usability with historical references, creating seating that is both functional and symbolic.
The bench is made from a solid oak wood board mounted on a steel construction. Its dual-purpose design allows for sitting as well as resting in a semi-standing position. The steel crossing sections reference simple joints historically used in tents, while the visual detailing draws from the structural language of the fortifications surrounding the site.
This project was developed from concept to fully functional prototype as part of my academic work. I began with extensive sketching, exploring construction possibilities and following by consultations with my supervisor. The refinement process combined a SketchUp 3D model with technical documentation and blueprints, ensuring accuracy for prototyping.
I collaborated with craftsmen, consulting metalworkers for the steel frame and woodworkers for the oak components. Final assembly was carried out personally, ensuring close attention to the design intent. The finished bench is designed to be anchored onto a concrete foundation for long-term stability.
