“Stolček” — colloquially known as shamlik or hokerlík — was developed as my master’s thesis project, envisioned as a lifelong companion. The design emphasizes the value of combining sophisticated design, high-quality materials, and precise craftsmanship into a single, timeless object.
The main objective was to merge wood and metal in a way that preserves their individual character while creating a harmonious whole. The metal structure provides strength and stability, while simultaneously highlighting the warmth, tactility, and visual qualities of the wooden seat. The result is a piece that feels reliable, sturdy, and enduring, yet remains pleasant and inviting to the touch.
The stool’s design reflects a balance between harmony and dynamism, with both materials retaining their independence but achieving cohesion through thoughtful detailing and proportion.
My work:
Concept development
Explored the dialogue between wood and metal in furniture design
Hand sketching and form studies
3D modeling for refinement and structural resolution
Material research into durability and tactile qualities
Prototyping and functional testing
Fabrication of a full-scale 1:1 prototype, combining wood and metalworking
Final presentation emphasizing craftsmanship and long-term usability
