A bench designed for the lakeside park in Trnava, inspired by the broadleaf cattail plant commonly found around the water. The design combines seating with subtle interactions between people and nature, creating both a functional and symbolic element for the lakeside environment.
The construction features a dominant steel element that acts both as a structural support and as a crafted detail, seamlessly intersecting the solid oak wood seating. The oak planks were treated with oil to highlight the natural wood grain, enhancing durability while emphasizing material.
The bench offers three seating options, divided by the central steel element and accompanied by two integrated feeders for ducks: one sealed container for water and one drained container for food. This creates a point of direct connection between visitors and the local wildlife, reinforcing the relationship between people and their natural surroundings.
My work:
Concept development inspired by natural forms of the cattail plant
Hand sketching
Research into material durability in outdoor conditions
3D modeling in SketchUp
Preparation of technical documentation and blueprints
Design of functional details as integrated duck feeders and water drainage
Collaboration with craftsmen about metal structure fabrication and oak woodwork
Assembly of the full-scale functional prototype
Presentation and submission as a complete academic project
